Care Guide
The pieces on VOHANDAS are made by hand, in small batches, from natural and semi-precious materials. With a few habits, they will hold their finish for years.
Raffia handbags (Bahari, Lamu, and other handwoven styles)
- Store stuffed with the original tissue or a soft cotton cloth, in a dust bag, away from direct sunlight.
- Spot clean with a slightly damp white cloth. Avoid soap, solvent, and full submersion.
- Keep dry. Allow any wet raffia to air dry flat, away from heat. Do not blow dry.
- Treat shells, pearls, and coral embellishments as you would fine jewelry. Avoid contact with perfume, lotion, and chlorinated water.
Plated jewelry (18k gold plate, silver plate, rhodium plate)
- Apply perfume, lotion, and hair product before putting on jewelry. Wait until they are fully absorbed.
- Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, sleeping, or cleaning.
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Store flat in a soft pouch, separated from other pieces to prevent scratching.
- Plating is a finish, not a permanent coating. Frequency of wear and skin chemistry affect how long it lasts. Treated gently, plate finishes can hold for years.
Pearl, freshwater pearl, and shell jewelry
- Pearls and natural shells are organic. They scratch and dull when in contact with cosmetics, perfume, and chemicals.
- Always put pearl pieces on last and take them off first.
- Wipe with a soft damp cloth, then dry, after each wear. Store separately from other jewelry.
Apparel
- Follow the care label on each garment. Many of our jacquard, raffia, and embellished pieces are dry clean only.
- Hang structured garments on padded hangers. Fold knit and stretch pieces to avoid distortion.
- Spot test any cleaning product on an inside seam before broader use.
